How to Keep Your Carpets Clean

Cleaning the carpets in your home is usually just a routine of vacuuming areas which are frequently used. However over time, carpets lose their fresh look and begin to appear worn out and shabby. Stains take over the shine that once used to make your carpets seem stylish, and bright. But now you don’t need to worry, because I have compiled a few home remedies that are easy to do, cheap, and effective in making your carpets look like they did when you first got them. :Here are the tips to keeping your carpets clean

For weekly cleaning, vacuum your carpet thoroughly, making sure that the dirt does not embed itself deeply into the carpet. Do not let dirt accumulate, as it will become harder for you to remove any stains, making your carpets discolor. Areas which are used frequently, or have high-foot traffic, should be vacuumed in a zigzag manner to remove soil
. particles from shoes, or pets

Removing stains can be a tricky process depending on the type of stain it is, and the material of your carpet. You could always go down to any hardware store and choose an environmentally safe carpet. However, you will need to choose the cleaner you need depending on the stain and the type of carpet. When removing a stain, always blot out the area which is effected, remembering not to dab it too hard. This will only make the stain go deeper into the layers of the carpet. Then with a clean washcloth and water blot the stain again, and let it dry. Once it is dry, use the carpet cleaner
. over it and clean again with water

A simple way to remove a new stain without the help of a carpet cleaner is to blot it out with a clean, damp washcloth and then with a bristle brush apply a mild detergent onto the stain and brush off the stain. Clean away the suds of the detergent by blotting it again with warm water. For older stains, apply the same procedure that you would for newer stains, and then spray the effected area with a mixture of 2 cups of water and 1 cup of lemon juice. Blot out the suds
. again with warm water

For home-made remedies for carpet cleaning, you could always steam clean the carpets with a mild detergent. Add to that 1 cup of vinegar for every 2 1/2 gallons of water, and you will have wonderfully clean carpets. Remember not to
. steam clean your carpets in winters, as they will not dry effectively and leave an odor

.Corn starch and baking soda are miracle workers for grease stains, if left for a few hours

Use ice-cubes for removing candle droppings, and club soda for removing red wine, juice, ink and coffee stains. Mix
. vinegar with water and this will also become a good stain remover for general stains

For general washing of carpets, always remember to use very hot water, this helps with the drying process and will also kill
. dust-mites. Hot water also cleans better than cold, and removes the usual stains easily

Lastly, do not over-wet a carpet as it causes a lot of other problems which might not be fixed easily, such as growth of
. fungus or mold, re-appearance of older, deeper stains, and odors

Carpet cleaning should not be too much of a hassle anymore if you follow these simple tips. Also, if you want to make a home-made carpet freshener, then just make a mixture of 3 cups of spices and herbs from your own kitchen, mixed with 1 cup of baking soda, and sprinkle on your carpet for 15-20 minutes before vacuuming. You can use cinnamon, nutmeg or cloves, which leave a nice fragrance for a couple of days. With these tips, the experience of cleaning your carpets would be much better rather than cleaning them with harmful chemicals that can leave bad odors for hours once you are done
