Iowa City residence was built in 1941 and then expanded
several times over several decades. Iowa City is a
massive housing complex. The desire to liberate and set
the interior space and connect them to this landscape is a
central theme that guided the renovation of the house

The designers employed served to simplify and expand
the house. Gable form of expanded vertically to increase
the volume of existing homes in the foundation.
Existing window replaced and extended their rhythm to
order the fenestration of the house. The result is, simple
is almost typical, “a house”. Volume spike is then
expanded with a series of porch provides a transition
space between inside and outside, as well as sun
protection for the newly enlarged opening glass. Home
is, in turn, frames the exterior space around the house.

local artists. The house is cooled by fans and natural

traditional Balinese gate-way protected by stone

and water-lily filled fish ponds. Antique Javanese doors
open onto the main living area with its soaring alang
